RECIPE FROM THE STUDIO

Hello painting friends,

I always think chipmunks rule as the Number 1 messengers that announce "spring is here!" Hence the little crown on this little fellow's head!

I love the month of April. It's the month I was born in, it's spring time, everything is renewing, there is hope in the air...ah yes, I just love this month.

If you've been to the website lately, you'll notice that the Home page has been re-worked and I've added a lot of new content.

I plan on adding a lot more information so do visit the site often.

A quick update on Gus; he's doing very well.

I've kept this issue kind of light because I know you're all itching to get out into your gardens.

Enjoy the newsletter and then get some fresh air before returning to your painting projects!

Cheryl

P.S. Don't forget to take advantage of OPEN STUDIO where several times every month you can drop in to finish up a project or just use the studio to get away and make art on your own.

I'm always here to help in case you haven't painted in a while and you'd like to get back into it.

Pre-registration is required.

A BIT OF NEWS

I'm very excited to let you know that Underwired, a US women's magazine, contacted me about using one of my pieced collages for their May 2010 Cover page!

The featured artwork is entitled "Hey Girlfriend!".

Underwired launched in September 2006 and is designed to support women in their pursuit of meaningful work, creative passion and other spirited adventures.

If you'd like to learn this mixed media collage technique, let me know. It's fun and you get to work from family photos!

ART JOURNALS

A COLLABORATION

Art journals are a great way to capture thoughts, ideas, dreams, techniques and much more.

A twist on journaling is to invite one or more artists to contribute to a journal.

I've invited an artist friend to do that with me. We are blogging the entire development on 2 separate blogs.

You can see and experience my journal right here. And you can follow Catherine Gutsche's progress here.

ARTIST TRADING CARDS

A CONTEST

to help raise funds for PLEO

If you read last month's issue, I talked about Artist Trading Cards, also known as ATCs.

I'm pleased to sponsor the FIRST ANNUAL ATC CONTEST to help raise funds for Parents Lifelines of Eastern Ontario.

It's fun and it's for a great cause. Please read all about it here. and tell all your friends and family.

All ATCs will be posted on a virtual Gallery where visitors can vote for their favourite. As well, the Royal Ottawa Hospital will host a mini art show in late July 2010 featuring all of the artist trading cards. Viewers will have an opportunity to vote and comment too.

Two of the prizes were generously donated by Ronna Mogelon of ATC QUARTERLY.

RECIPE FROM THE STUDIO

Here's a powerful pick-me-up kind of healthy snack.

HOMEMADE TRAIL MIX

Makes 15 servings

1 serving is 1/4 cup

INGREDIENTS

4 tbsp butter

1/2 cup shelled sunflower seeds

1/2 cup pumpkin seeds

1/2 cup shelled pistachio nuts

1/2 cup almonds

1/2 cup pecan halves

1/2 cup flaked unsweetened coconut

1 tsp salt

1/4 cup raisins

1/4 cup dates, cut into quarters

1/4 cup dried apricots, cut into quarters

STEP-BY-STEP

Preheat the oven to 350F

Melt the butter in a shallow glass baking dish in the microwave for 30-40 seconds.

Add the seeds and nuts, plus the coconut and stir until well coated with the butter. Sprinkle with salt.

Toast in the oven for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from the oven and let cool.

Add the dried fruit.

Store in the refrigerator.

I love this if I'm famished and in a hurry.

----------------------------------------------------------------

If you know me, you know I love cooking as much as I love making art.

So I have launched a new website which will become huge over the next few months.

It already boasts some terrific recipes which are ideal for entertaining any time of the year!!

You can now access all my best recipes here. If you want to share your favorite recipe with me, I'll cook it and do a taste test.

If it's as great as you say it is, I'll post it on the site and give you credit!

Enjoy!!
