RECIPE FROM THE STUDIO
Hello painting friends,
Here in Eastern Ontario Canada, spring is giving way to summer in such a delightful manner. It's been warm and sunny, yet cool at night. All flora and fauna have arrived weeks ahead of time.
The woods where I live and work are alive with bird songs and the frolicking sounds of animals vying for territory and claiming their mates.
Everywhere I turn I'm inspired to go make art! Now get out there with your cameras and capture the magic of one season blending into the next.
P.S. Don't forget to take advantage of
where several times every month you can drop in to finish up a project or just use the studio to get away and make art on your own.
I'm always here to help in case you haven't painted in a while and you'd like to get back into it.
Pre-registration is required.
OTTAWA VALLEY DECORATIVE ARTISTS
The Ottawa Valley Decorative Artists (OVDA) is a painting guild established to provide educational opportunities that will broaden members' knowledge and experience of decorative painting and to support charitable organizations and community groups selected by the membership. OVDA is a volunteer, not for profit organization.
Their primary charity is connected to the International Memory Box Program which commenced in June 1998 when volunteers began providing hand painted papier-maché boxes for families of infants who pass away in a hospital.
The purpose of the program is to affirm an infant's life for a family thus preventing them from leaving the hospital without any recognition of their child’s passing. Essentially, the memory box program helps parents commence the grieving process after the loss of their child. No memory box is ever sold to a family or a hospital.
The memory box program in the Ottawa Valley began with the OVDA in 1999. The papier-maché boxes are purchased by the OVDA and provided to guild members for either painting at home or painting during a guild memory box workshop.
Donation of funds to purchase boxes comes through the kindness and generosity of the membership. Our artists willingly and lovingly donate their talent, paints and time for this memory box program. In 2009, the guild painted and donated 110 boxes to Ottawa area hospitals.
If you would like to help in any way or you'd like to become a member of the OVDA, please visit
the OVDA website.
My pieced collage mixed media canvas, entitled "Hey Girlfriend!" made the front cover of Underwired Magazine. Yep, little ol' me.
A magazine all the way from Louisville Kentucky saw my canvas on the Internet and asked if they could use it for their May Issue. The theme for that month was "Bond" and they felt that this work was most suitable for it.
What a great feeling it was to get my very own copy in the mail the other day. I just had to share with you!
DVDs COMING SOON!
Yes it's all true! I'll be spending the summer and fall creating instructional DVDs. My husband Frank has been after me to do this for a few years and I'm now ready to commit.
Frank will do the videotaping as I demonstrate projects and techniques in simple and easy to understand ways. Lots of up close stuff.
For those of you who no longer have a place to take classes or those who like to work on your own, these DVDs will be of great interest to you.
Along with the DVDs, there will also be easy to follow written instructions.
These DVDs will cover decorative painting, faux finishing and mixed media art techniques. A bit of everything to please everyone.
If you have any questions or some recommendations, by all means drop me a line
ARTIST TRADING CARDS
to help raise funds for PLEO
I'm pleased to be sponsoring the FIRST ANNUAL ATC CONTEST to help raise funds for Parents Lifelines of Eastern Ontario.
It's fun and it's for a great cause. The contest is coming to a close at the end of June 2010.
Please read all about it
and tell all your friends and family.
All ATCs will be posted on a virtual Gallery where visitors can vote for their favourite. As well, the Royal Ottawa Hospital will host a mini art show in late July 2010 featuring all of the artist trading cards. Viewers will have an opportunity to vote and comment too.
