RECIPE FROM THE STUDIO

HELLO FROM THE STUDIO!

Hello painting friends!

It's September already! I've been busy in the studio painting up new projects for the FALL and WINTER 2009 / 2010 Schedule. Some of the projects are already on the website and there are a few more on the way!

STUDIO OPEN HOUSE IS ON SEPTEMBER 18, 19 AND 20, 2009!!! Opportunities to win door prizes for my guests.

You'll be happy to know that daytime workshops will be scheduled for the 3rd and 4th Tuesday of every month. Of course, weekend workshops still rule the calendar!

I have added a Spontaneous Art class. This is a fun few hours designed to unleash the artist within. If you're stuck in a rut, this is a great way to get un-stuck. It's also great for first timers who are timid about trying an art class.

Of course mixed media projects are always on the go to inspire you to step outside your comfort zone.

This is a short newsletter. I just wanted you to know I'm here and I'm making sure the studio is well-stocked with great projects for you!

Cheers and happy painting everyone!

Cheryl

3rd ANNUAL PAINT IN

FUNDRAISER

This year I am once again asking for your generous help.

Who better to ask for help than gifted painters and crafters...

This is the third year I have opened the studio for an opportunity to gather nice people around the tables to create ornaments or other crafts.

Our annual Painting for Charity event to support

PARENTS' LIFELINES OF EASTERN ONTARIO

To raise funds that will provide recreation and socialization for 16 to 25 year olds living with mental illness. This is a hugely underfunded area and every penny we raise counts.

The big drive happens on Sunday, September 27 as well as Sunday, October 25, 2009. The studio will be filled with delicious goodies, fresh coffee and tea.

HOW ELSE CAN YOU HELP?

If you can't be here, why not just mail in an unbreakable item....it could be knitted slippers, a flat ornament, a pretty scarf...anything handmade would be most appreciated. Here's all the information.

As a way of thanking you, I will personally make sure every person gets their own web page on my website featuring photographs of their wonderful contribution(s).

RECIPE FROM THE STUDIO

These are tri-coloured carrots I shot at the Carp Farmers' Market. They were sweet and yummy.

Here's a simple recipe...

BRAISED CARROTS WITH FENNEL, Makes 4 servings.

1 medium bulb fennel (about 3/4 pound)

1 cup chicken stock

2 cups thinly sliced small carrots

2 tbsp chopped shallots or onion

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Pepper to taste

Trim stalk from fennel bulb; chop and save a few wispy fronds.

Remove outer layer of fennel bulb if discoloured or bruised; trim root end. Cut into 1/4-inch thick pieces about 1-inch long.

In saucepan, bring chicken stock to boil; add carrots, shallots and fennel. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until the veggies are tender; uncover and boil to reduce the liquid until nearly gone. Stir in parsley and reserved fennel fronds. Season with pepper to taste. Serve hot.
