Painting With Acrylics

Workshops And Classes

Winter / Spring 2017-2018
Coming soon...

Painting with acrylics is a wonderful hobby. There are no fumes, the paints dry quickly, you can add a variety of mediums to them so they take on properties similar to oils or watercolours.

I love acrylics and I use them in my decorative painting, like the projects featured below as well as in my mixed media art.

Please check back again as I continue to develop classes for the 2018 Winter/ Summer and Fall schedule.

I'll be adding more events not related to painting that I think will stimulate your creativity in new ways as well!

A Rose Study

Come learn to paint a simple rose, petal by petal.  Original design by yours truly!!

You can paint the rose any colour of your choice!

SKILL LEVEL:  Intermediate, including good floating skills and dry-brushing.

DATE: To be announced

TIME: 10:00 am to 5:00pm

FEE: 45, includes lunch, tea or coffee

Pours with Pam!

Meet Pamela Booth, my newest guest instructor.  Check this out...

Under Pam's expert guidance you will create intricate and fascinating pours using her recipe for success.

And no, it's not just pouring paint and hoping for something to happen.  There's a finesse and some chemistry involved when certain mediums and artist grade acrylics collide.

Prepare to relax and to have fun.

Pam will demonstrate the art of a pour painting and then walk you through the process step-by-step as you create your own unique masterpiece.

Instead of using tools such as knives or brushes, artist grade acrylic paints and mediums are poured directly onto a surface and then tilted to move the paint around.

Pouring paint allows for the colours to blend naturally. They form organic shapes that are unpredictable and flowing, visually suggesting the natural world of animals, plants, sky and sea, and adding unpredictable energy to the composition.

Date: Saturday, August 12, 2017 (Thank you, this workshop is full.)

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon with lunch afterwards.

Feel free to bring wine to enjoy with lunch
and hang around with Cheryl afterwards
for a relaxing afternoon of spontaneous Intuitive Painting and
making quick and easy artwork for your walls or greeting cards.

Fee: $90

Skill Level: No experience required, just a willingness to go with the flow!  (Pardon the pun!)

All supplies are included in your fee.  The surface (8" x 10"), use of artist grade mediums and artist grade acrylics.

For the Intuitive Painting afternoon, all materials are supplied as well.

All you do is show up and prepare to have a blast!!!

Note: please bring a shallow container (like small cans cat or dog food), and old tea towels to support your painting while traveling home.

Intuitive Painting

You may be wondering, “What the heck is intuitive painting?”  In the art world, it's an art form known as "automatism".  It’s pronounced au·tom·a·tism with the emphasis on the “tom”.

And that, my friend, is the process of creating anything artistic without conscious thought.  In effect, it's just spontaneous painting… guided by your unconscious mind.  It could be spontaneous writing as well!

It's all about YOU letting go and just making your kind of marks.  It’s about getting out of your own way and not over-thinking.  What a fabulous experience!

All you do is use a variety of brushes and tools and your own colour choices.  There is no right or wrong way.  There are no rules.  You get to experience creating without boundaries or constraints.  YEAH!!!

Watercolour paper is supplied.   You will have use of artist grade acrylics, mediums and the tools are provided during your workshop.

Highland Peach Pansy

This Deborah Bonnewell, CDA painting has been converted from oils to acrylics.

In this workshop you'll learn how to create petal ruffles, perfect your dew drops and much, much more.

It is a challenging project but well worth the effort!

Surface size is 10" x 10".  Paint on a wooden cradle board or canvas or other surface of your choice.

SKILL LEVEL:  Intermediate ++

DATE: New date to be announced...

TIME: 10:00 am to 4:00pm
